STRONGSVILLE SOCIETY of MODEL RAILROAD ENGINEERS

HO Scale

The SSMRE is a freelance HO scale 250' around the wall, double track mainline folded dog bone track plan. Although the club was established around 1980 as a modular design, the current permanent layout was started in 1992. All track is in place and operational. The scenery is essentially complete but it is slowly being refreshed and upgraded. Scenery transitions across the model railroad from Western mountains to a flatter Midwestern scene. Control is ‘straight DC’ with 6 mainline cabs controlled with wireless Revolution controllers and several local switching districts that can also be controlled with tethered Dallee Yardmaster controllers in addition to the mainline cabs.

In 2024, the SSMRE will be celebrating its 44th year of operation. We have had 100+ members come and go during that time. About a dozen of the original group remain on the roster. Currently we have 25 active members. Thank you for visiting our model railroad and please come by again.

The SSMRE is in downtown Strongsville in the basement of the Baldwin House on the grounds of the Strongsville Historical Village. The Village can be found on the east side of SR 82 (Pearl Road) less than ¼ mile north of the SR82 intersection.

From Pearl Road, enter Zverina Lane which borders the north edge of the fenced in Village and park in the first lot on the north side of Zverina. Enter on foot through the black steel gate directly across the street. Vehicles should not enter the village grounds. Follow the paved drive to the last house on the left at the Pearl Rd end of the driveway. Enter the club through the rear outside stairwell. You will find the basement clubroom to be a relatively modern, clean and well-lit area but please be advised that it is NOT handicap accessible. Due to our location in the historic village compound please do not hesitate to call Ron at 216-410-6001 if you have a problem finding us. Crossbuck and additional signs will be posted.
